In other words\, God is the only cause and the only creator\, and God is causing good and right developments for each one of us. “ \n\n  \n\n“Mary Baker Eddy\, the woman who founded the Christian Science church\, knew that this subject of causation\, cause and effect\, might just be the most important discussion of our time. In fact\, she boldly stated that making progress in the world depends on understanding cause and effect in the right way. She wrote: “Spiritual causation is the one question to be considered\, for more than all others spiritual causation relates to human progress.” (Science and Health p. 170:22–24) \n“To that point\, perhaps you’ve noticed that the world is talking nonstop about causation right now.\ \nIn this lecture\, I’m going to take a different approach. I’d like to talk about causation\, from a spiritual point of view. In other words\, what is God causing? What kind of effects does God’s causative power produce? The Bible promises that God is causing only good. So in this lecture\, I will explore how a better understanding of the good that God forever causes\, can help us to experience more of that goodness in the form of health\, peace\, and safety for our world. In the beginning\, from the beginning\, and without beginning\, God is causing good. As loved children of God\, we each have a divine right to feel the effect of that divine goodness in our daily lives. I invite you then\, to come learn more about the joy of beginning with God.” \n  \nAbout Mark McCurties\nEver since he was a little boy\, Mark had a deep love for the Bible. When he read about men and women in the Bible overcoming hatred\, famine\, war\, physical disease\, and other hardships\, their triumphs inspired him. It didn’t matter what the odds were\, or what conditions they faced\, individuals in the Bible seemed to flourish in adversity based on one common theme: their deep love for God. \nGrowing up in a Christian Science household\, there was another book that Mark loved to read daily: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures written by Mary Baker Eddy. The very purpose of her book is to help unlock and reveal the deeper divine meaning and inspiration of the Bible. Together the Bible and Science and Health point to the practical healing and saving power of God and its present availability for all mankind. Mark knew that someday he wanted to share that healing message with the world. \nAs he grew into adulthood\, experiences in the field of education as a summer camp director\, outdoor educator\, athletics coach\, and resident counselor all helped to develop his understanding and practice of Christian Science. While working with young people\, Mark had multiple opportunities to witness God’s healing power. These examples proved to him that the healing power of the Christ is just as alive and relevant today as for the men and women of the Bible. The talk is free and open to the community. \n“In college\, I was suddenly hit with a feeling of being disconnected and alone\,” says Mary. “Maybe it was because I was the only female physics major. Maybe it was because my work schedule meant I was seeing less of my friends. Whatever the reason\, I knew that a change in circumstances wouldn’t solve anything. It was at that point that spirituality became of primary importance in helping me find a lasting solution. For me\, spirituality means our connectedness to God and whatever practice we have that helps us recognize that. So perhaps it’s not surprising that one day\, after an insight about God and the ever-presence of God’s love dawned on me\, the disconnect vanished. Since then\, I’ve felt a conviction that divine Love is here for me\, and for everyone. \n“In spite of the hyper-connectedness of social media and technology\, we live in an era in which many are feeling this same disconnect. We all yearn to find meaningful relationships\, or a more lasting connection with peace\, contentment\, even health. In my lecture\, I’ll discuss how anyone can become genuinely aware of God’s presence and experience heaven — harmony\, health\, and happiness — here and now. \n“I’ll also share how the study of the Bible\, and a book that explains the healing relevance of the Bible\, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy\, can open up a new meaning of heaven to each of us. This heaven isn’t a place\, but a tangible feeling of being enveloped in love and spirituality that comes from understanding more about God. We’ll explore the new perspectives that come from this understanding of God — healing perspectives that can resolve all kinds of difficulties\, and transform our lives for good.” \nAbout Mary Bothwell \nFrom childhood\, Mary has pursued a quest to understand the universe. Her spiritual education and search began in the Christian Science Sunday School\, where she learned to apply the lessons in the Bible and the Christian Science textbook\, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, to her life. She was especially interested in the spiritual meaning behind what she read. In early adulthood\, Mary learned that Christ Jesus’ declaration\, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand\,” is true for everybody right now\, no matter where they are. She realized that the peace and joy inherent in the kingdom of heaven\, the spiritual universe\, are available to her at all times and under all circumstances. This understanding has carried her through difficult professional situations\, and allowed her to safely travel throughout the world. \n\nMary earned a Bachelor’s degree in physics from Principia College and an M.B.A. from UCLA. She was employed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) for 34 years. During her time at JPL\, she participated in and managed the development of technology and scientific instrumentation for earth\, planetary\, and astrophysics missions. \nNow\, in her work as a Christian Science practitioner\, Mary prays with people of many faiths to achieve healing through prayer as taught by Christ Jesus and described by Mary Baker Eddy in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Various health and emotional issues have been cured\, interpersonal relationships harmonized\, and supply restored. \nIn gratitude for the 18 years of instruction she received in Christian Science Sunday Schools\, she has served most of her adult life as a Sunday School teacher. She loves helping her students understand the Bible’s message and rejoices in their progress as healers and spiritual thinkers. \nMary and her husband Graham live in Pasadena\, California.

DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Nate Frederick. \n“Are prayer and healing for you?” asks Nate Frederick. “I mean\, if you have no experience with spirituality or religion\, or you’re not even sure what you think about God\, can you still pray and be healed? \n“Yes. Because prayer and healing are natural to us\, and I say this as one who didn’t even grow up in a religious household. But what I’ve discovered as I’ve studied Christian Science is that a willingness to shift perspectives\, to see things in a new\, more spiritual way\, has an effect–for anyone.” \nNate Frederick — a practitioner of Christian Science and international speaker — will present his talk\, Prayer and Well-Being: A Spiritual Adventure\, on Saturday\, March 9\, at 2 p.m.\, at the Bellingham Public Library\, 210 Central Avenue in Bellingham. \nNate talks about an inmate he once worked with. “As I shared the basics of Christian Science with him he said it all sounded great but he was just a bad person. He seemed pretty convinced that healing wasn’t for him. But as we talked about the fact that he wasn’t defined by his past\, but by God\, his source\, who is completely good\, I could tell his thought about himself was changing. \n“And then he wanted more. So he took a copy of the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy’s book\, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, back to his cell and started to dive into these books. Six or seven weeks later\, I ran into him again and he told me that he’d been healed of a serious illness–just from studying the Bible and Science and Health. His study helped him grasp God and his life in a new way and his disease was cured. \n“In my lecture\, I’ll share more about the fundamentals of effective prayer\, as I’ve learned from studying Christian Science\, as well as how healing is truly possible for everyone.” \nAbout Nate Frederick \nExperiencing first-hand the healing power of Love is Nate’s favorite thing.  It’s what makes him tick. \nNate studied religion and perennial philosophy at Hampshire College where he was introduced to Christian Science healing. Although he was enamored with the academic exploration of spirituality\, what he truly desired most was to practice spirituality in a tangible way — he wanted to experience God and heal others. \nAfter producing a documentary on miracles and traveling the world where he hiked extensively in the Himalayas\, Nate came to Boston in 2008 to work for his church\, The First Church of Christ\, Scientist. Since then\, he has served in many capacities\, including launching and producing your Daily Lift podcast. Nate also helped pioneer the online Sunday School at The Mother Church; helped launch a branch church in Jamaica Plain\, Massachusetts; worked as a counselor and wilderness trip leader for six years at a camp for Christian Scientists; has shared the Good News at jails\, rehab centers and interfaith-events. He’s also composed\, produced and performed a variety of spiritually inspired music. \nNate’s many hobbies include adventuring in the outdoors\, writing songs and cooking. But he says\, “Without comparison\, my greatest love\, my greatest joy— my purpose — is to transform lives and heal the sick through Christianly Scientific prayer.” \nThis deeper sense of purpose led Nate to become a full-time Christian Science practitioner\, who helps others find healing. DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Alexandre Fischer. \n“We are not stuck!” says Alex Fischer. “Understanding more clearly our relationship with God\, infinite good\, ends fear and leads the way forward.” \nAlex Fischer\, practitioner of Christian Science healing and international speaker\, will present his talk\, “How spiritual perception brings healing” on Saturday\, March 2\, at 11 a.m. Alex will speak at The Swedish Club\, 1920 Dexter Ave N\, Seattle\, WA 98109. \nAlex’s talk will focus on universal healing precepts found in the Holy Bible\, especially in Christ Jesus’ life and teachings\, showing how they are available for anyone to understand and experience through the lens of Christian Science. The talk is free\, open to the community\, and sponsored by 12th Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Seattle. \nSharing examples of healing from his own life and professional practice of Christian Science\, Fischer will explain why Christian Science is both Christian and scientific\, meaning that people can prove its effectiveness for themselves\, as fully described in the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, written by the founder of the Christian Science movement\, Mary Baker Eddy. \nFischer will also touch on the life of Mary Baker Eddy\, who came to understand\, confirm\, and teach what she felt was original Christian healing. Eddy herself said she was especially inspired by Jesus’ demand\, “He that believes on me\, the works that I do will he do also; and greater works than these will he do\, because I go unto my Father” (found in the Gospel of John 14:12 in the Bible). \nAbout Alex \nPracticing law in France and the United States for several years informed Alex’s practice of Christian Science. The law was not just his job\, he says\, it was his passion. To Alex\, being a good lawyer meant exercising the ability to think precisely and feeling a desire to help others get out of trouble. \nDuring his years as a lawyer\, his interest in Christian Science grew. At first\, he was impressed by its remarkable healings and resolutions\, but as he dug deeper\, he found a profound spirituality. He used to believe that religion and spirituality meant accepting a system of beliefs and letting go of discernment and critical thinking. But the more he studied and practiced this spirituality\, the more he found that one’s relationship with God requires critical thinking to understand spiritual concepts. These concepts can in turn be applied to one’s life to bring healing. \nGradually\, he gave up his law practice to become a full-time Christian Science practitioner. Alex still works to help others “get out of trouble\,” that is\, to overcome a sense of limitation and to find freedom. \nAlex discovered that Christian Science is not just about feeling better or fixing problems. It’s about being willing to challenge one’s world view as entirely molecule-based and soulless\, to be open to see the world as spiritually-based\, and experience how this change in perspective brings inner peace and healing. Christian Science helps us understand our relationship with God\, infinite good\, more clearly. Its teachings help us see Christ Jesus’ message in a non-dogmatic way\, bringing healing\, harmony and freedom to our life. \nThrough healing and lecturing\, Alex works to enable others to find this same freedom. That’s the ultimate good news!” \nPatty Woodard — a practitioner of Christian Science healing and international speaker — will present her talk\, Breaking news: Freedom is ours now\, on Monday\, Feb. 26\, at 6 p.m.\, at the Camas Public  Library\, 625 NE 4th Avenue\, Camas. Her talk is free\, open to the community\, and hosted by the Christian Science Society in Camas. \nSays Patty about her talk: “The little bird in my hand was free to fly away. We’d banded him as part of an Audubon Society effort and the time had come for his release. But even when I opened my hand to let him go\, he didn’t budge. What did he need? He just needed a little lift. When I gave him even the tiniest nudge upward\, off he flew. Free! \n“What is it that gives this kind of lift to our lives? Good news\, for one thing. And what better news than the promise that health and freedom can be ours today. Yes\, today! \n“My lecture traces the origins of this good news to Christ Jesus’ ministry\, and then explores how the discovery of a 19th-century woman named Mary Baker Eddy—who found freedom from chronic illness and other struggles in her own life—shows the provable relevance of Jesus’ ministry in our lives today. So she returned to school and earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching. This desire to help others and her love of Christian Science impelled her to set time aside to pray for others. That’s the ultimate good news!” \nPatty Woodard — a practitioner of Christian Science healing and international speaker — will present her talk\, Breaking news: Freedom is ours now\, on Saturday\, Feb. 24\, at 2 p.m.\, at the Gig Harbor Library\, 4424 Point Fosdick Drive\, Gig Harbor. Her talk is free\, open to the community\, and hosted by First Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Gig Harbor. \nSays Patty about her talk: “The little bird in my hand was free to fly away. We’d banded him as part of an Audubon Society effort and the time had come for his release. But even when I opened my hand to let him go\, he didn’t budge. What did he need? He just needed a little lift. When I gave him even the tiniest nudge upward\, off he flew. Free! \n“What is it that gives this kind of lift to our lives? Good news\, for one thing. And what better news than the promise that health and freedom can be ours today. Yes\, today! \n“My lecture traces the origins of this good news to Christ Jesus’ ministry\, and then explores how the discovery of a 19th-century woman named Mary Baker Eddy—who found freedom from chronic illness and other struggles in her own life—shows the provable relevance of Jesus’ ministry in our lives today.
