DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Alexandre Fischer. \n“We are not stuck!” says Alex Fischer. “Understanding more clearly our relationship with God\, infinite good\, ends fear and leads the way forward.” \nAlex Fischer\, practitioner of Christian Science healing and international speaker\, will present his talk\, “How spiritual perception brings healing” on Saturday\, March 2\, at 11 a.m. Alex will speak at The Swedish Club\, 1920 Dexter Ave N\, Seattle\, WA 98109. \nAlex’s talk will focus on universal healing precepts found in the Holy Bible\, especially in Christ Jesus’ life and teachings\, showing how they are available for anyone to understand and experience through the lens of Christian Science. The talk is free\, open to the community\, and sponsored by 12th Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Seattle. \nSharing examples of healing from his own life and professional practice of Christian Science\, Fischer will explain why Christian Science is both Christian and scientific\, meaning that people can prove its effectiveness for themselves\, as fully described in the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, written by the founder of the Christian Science movement\, Mary Baker Eddy. \nFischer will also touch on the life of Mary Baker Eddy\, who came to understand\, confirm\, and teach what she felt was original Christian healing. Eddy herself said she was especially inspired by Jesus’ demand\, “He that believes on me\, the works that I do will he do also; and greater works than these will he do\, because I go unto my Father” (found in the Gospel of John 14:12 in the Bible). \nAbout Alex \nPracticing law in France and the United States for several years informed Alex’s practice of Christian Science. The law was not just his job\, he says\, it was his passion. To Alex\, being a good lawyer meant exercising the ability to think precisely and feeling a desire to help others get out of trouble. \nDuring his years as a lawyer\, his interest in Christian Science grew. At first\, he was impressed by its remarkable healings and resolutions\, but as he dug deeper\, he found a profound spirituality. He used to believe that religion and spirituality meant accepting a system of beliefs and letting go of discernment and critical thinking. But the more he studied and practiced this spirituality\, the more he found that one’s relationship with God requires critical thinking to understand spiritual concepts. These concepts can in turn be applied to one’s life to bring healing. \nGradually\, he gave up his law practice to become a full-time Christian Science practitioner. Alex still works to help others “get out of trouble\,” that is\, to overcome a sense of limitation and to find freedom. \nAlex discovered that Christian Science is not just about feeling better or fixing problems. It’s about being willing to challenge one’s world view as entirely molecule-based and soulless\, to be open to see the world as spiritually-based\, and experience how this change in perspective brings inner peace and healing. Christian Science helps us understand our relationship with God\, infinite good\, more clearly. Its teachings help us see Christ Jesus’ message in a non-dogmatic way\, bringing healing\, harmony and freedom to our life. \nThrough healing and lecturing\, Alex works to enable others to find this same freedom. That’s the ultimate good news!” \nPatty Woodard — a practitioner of Christian Science healing and international speaker — will present her talk\, Breaking news: Freedom is ours now\, on Monday\, Feb. 26\, at 6 p.m.\, at the Camas Public  Library\, 625 NE 4th Avenue\, Camas. Her talk is free\, open to the community\, and hosted by the Christian Science Society in Camas. \nSays Patty about her talk: “The little bird in my hand was free to fly away. We’d banded him as part of an Audubon Society effort and the time had come for his release. But even when I opened my hand to let him go\, he didn’t budge. What did he need? He just needed a little lift. When I gave him even the tiniest nudge upward\, off he flew. Free! \n“What is it that gives this kind of lift to our lives? Good news\, for one thing. And what better news than the promise that health and freedom can be ours today. Yes\, today! \n“My lecture traces the origins of this good news to Christ Jesus’ ministry\, and then explores how the discovery of a 19th-century woman named Mary Baker Eddy—who found freedom from chronic illness and other struggles in her own life—shows the provable relevance of Jesus’ ministry in our lives today. What she discovered through this study she called Christian Science—a view of God and the universe that uplifts our thoughts\, changes our perspective to a spiritual viewpoint\, and heals. \n“And it lifts all of us\, and can heal all of us. I’ll share the way Christian Science has brought healing to my own life\, rescuing me from a troubling situation with my teenage daughter\, and freeing me from the effects of an accident\, as well as examples of how it has helped others from different walks of life. The common thread through these experiences is the way a clearer view of the reality of our God-given wholeness also releases us from burdens in our lives and causes us to soar. Free!” \nAbout Patty Woodard \nPatty discovered Christian Science as an adolescent and soon thereafter experienced the complete healing of a broken arm through Christian Science treatment\, to the amazement of her mother\, a registered nurse. \nAfter working in New York City in the fashion business\, Patty realized she wanted to help children learn how to learn. So she returned to school and earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching. This desire to help others and her love of Christian Science impelled her to set time aside to pray for others. It’s about understanding more of what God is and learning to see our lives and the world through the lens of God’s all-good nature. It’s about stripping away surface-level appearances in order to discern what actually IS. Spiritual discovery reveals what is substantial\, lasting\, and powerful — and this leads to healing. What’s the outcome? Progress. Transformation. Wholeness. For anyone. \nJesus modeled a universal way to pray that leads to a greater awareness of the nature of God and of our relation to God.  He showed how turning from fear and preconceived notions to a clearer view of the presence of a God that is Love and Life itself can have a tangible\, healing effect in our lives. Bible accounts indicate that others who followed his example and teachings proved this too. Freedom from injustice\, hunger\, illness\, even incurable disease\, was gained through discovering more of what God is and does. \nPrayer can have a tangible\, healing effect today\, too. Problems related to our personal history and health as well as issues that trouble entire communities are rooted in misperceptions based on surface-level reasoning. Ultimately\, they never change the facts of what’s rooted in the nature of God — what’s genuine\, good\, and reliable. Prayer that leads to this true viewpoint\, one that’s based on spiritual discovery\, results in healing. \nDoes this sound like blind and dumb faith or positive thinking? It’s not—and centuries of tangible\, healing experiences help prove the Science of it. Mary Baker Eddy\, the founder of this approach to Christianity and healing: Christian Science makes clear the timeless\, universal\, and repeatable truths that underpin Jesus’ life and teachings. Eddy’s primary work\, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, explains Christian Science so that anyone can apply it and experience it for themselves. \nCan we better the world? Absolutely. Misperceptions appear on any scale. Just so\, the universal truths at the heart of Christian healing are true on any scale. Spiritual views can affect progress for communities just as they do for individuals. We can help the world by discovering what’s true! \nJoin us in Bellevue on Sunday\, Jan. 14\, at 3 p.m. to hear more. \nAbout Tom McElroy \nAfter college\, Tom worked in finance\, and volunteered as a prison Chaplain in men’s\, women’s\, and youth correctional facilities. Now\, as a Christian Science practitioner\, he prays with people from many different walks of life in order to help them find spiritually-based solutions to issues ranging from health problems to financial and relationship difficulties. \nAs a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship\, Tom has spoken about the practice of Christian Science for general audiences and groups in universities\, churches\, and prisons throughout North America\, Europe\, Africa and Australasia.
