DESCRIPTION:Dr. John M. Tutt received an M.D. degree in 1901. He had a Christian Science healing in 1905 and left the medical profession to become a Christian Science practitioner and teacher. We’ll read his article “Mary Baker Eddy: Her influence upon medicine\,” originally published in 1966 in The Christian Science Journal and reprinted in Mary Baker Eddy: A Centennial Appreciation. And we’ll listen to two more of his Journal articles (including “Wiser than serpents”) that have been reprinted and recorded in pamphlets and Anthology of Classic Articles.

DESCRIPTION:The Science of God and Its Power to Heal Us\nA FREE Inspirational Talk\nby Nikki O’Hagan\nThe current matter-based scientific model many questions unanswered and has some thinkers and scientists questioning if it is still the right model.\nIt is interesting to consider if the time has now come for another major paradigm shift in science – a shift that would include God as the center and circumference of all existence. This paradigm shift in thought begins with the questions – how does science relate to God and is there a science that explains God? \nNikki O’Hagan\, practitioner of Christian Science healing and international speaker will address these questions and show how the Science of God explains Jesus’ healings\, and teachings\, makes God knowable and understandable\, and provides humanity with a safe and reliable means for caring for ourselves and each other. \nJoin us for Nikki’s talk\, “The Science of God and its Power to Heal Us” at 11:00AM on Saturday\, Jun 7\, in Oak Harbor\, WA. The talk is free\, open to the community\, and hosted by First Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Oak Harbor at The Center (51 SE Jerome St\, Oak Harbor). \nNikki will also share some of her own experiences of the transforming\, healing power of God gained through understanding this Science of God\, or Christian Science. She will explain how this healing happens\, and what role consciousness plays in the process. \nAbout Nikki O’Hagan\nNikki grew up in South Africa where she gained a love for being outdoors and enjoying the beauty and promise of nature. From a young age she had a strong desire to not just experience life\, but to understand it. She used to exasperate her dad by following up every explanation he gave her by asking “but\, Why?” While Nikki did grow up attending Christian Science Sunday School\, as a teen she decided that this would not be the way for her to gain the understanding of life that she was seeking\, and she headed off in another direction. \nSeveral years followed in which she desperately tried to find happiness and to understand the Why of life. She looked everywhere and tried everything (even jumping out of an airplane!) but nothing brought answers\, happiness or lasting peace. Rather than finding an understanding of life\, it all seemed to just get darker and make less and less sense. \nAnd then a transformational healing brought her back to Christian Science\, where she found comfort\, peace\, mercy\, happiness\, harmony\, health\, and home in the arms of divine Love. Nikki then discovered that she loved the infallible logic of the Science of Christianity\, and found in it all the answers to her Whys. Life and God finally began to make sense and became full of joy\, light\, and love. Her gratitude for this pivotal healing\, and the salvation it brought her by setting her on the path of Christian Science\, was–and still is–unbounded. Since that time all she has wanted to do is love and serve God\, and love and serve others. \nThrough her study and practice of Christian Science\, Nikki has experienced and witnessed so many healings over the years. Her earnest desire is for all to know the transformational healing power of divine Love. This better concept of God brought healing changes to my life in a way that was deep and lasting. \nBuilding this new foundation began when my mother-in-law introduced me to Christian Science. As I explored the ideas in the Bible and the Christian Science textbook\, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy\, I began to get a very different view of God. Never before had I encountered the idea that God is not merely sometimes good or just a little bit good\, but all good\, only good\, always. To think of God as pure goodness\, and to discover that this same all-good God was the source of what I am and what everyone is without exception\, was\, to me\, a new and life-changing way to think about existence. \nThese new ideas showed me the power of God\, divine goodness\, at work in all of our lives–providing solutions to challenges such as sickness\, dishonesty\, and career setbacks\, which often seem like they can shake our foundation and connection to what’s good. This had a practical effect in my own life\, bringing a quick healing of a long-standing food allergy. And\, as time has gone on\, this foundational understanding of God as pure good has transformed my life in many ways\, including the healing of a serious illness and the restoration of my career. \nI invite you to join me in discovering how you can establish your own strong foundation and experience the life-changing effects of building on this solid basis for yourself and the world at 11:00AM on Saturday\, June 21\, in Issaquah\, WA. Prayer is getting beyond surface level judgements to a deeper sense of God’s nature—all-good\, all-loving—defining all things. It helps us see how natural health\, wholeness and harmony are\, here and now\, in a way that not only benefits us\, our family\, our colleagues\, and our friends\, but also it benefits the world. \nAlexandre Fischer\, practitioner of Christian Science healing and international speakerdescribes a number of specific experiences as he walks his listeners through how this prayerful perception of God brings healing in our lives. \nJoin us for Alexandre’s talk\, “How Spiritual Perception Brings Healing” at 3:30PM on Sunday\, June 22\, in Vancouver\, WA. The talk is free\, open to the community\, and hosted by First Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Vancouver\, WA in their church building at 204 East Fourth Plain\, Vancouver\, WA. \nAbout Alexandre Fischer\n \nPracticing law in France and the United States for several years informed Alexandre’s practice of Christian Science. The law was not just his job\, he says\, it was his passion. To Alexandre\, being a good lawyer meant exercising the ability to think precisely and feeling a desire to help others get out of trouble. \nDuring his years as a lawyer\, his interest in Christian Science grew. At first\, he was impressed by its remarkable healings and resolutions\, but as he dug deeper\, he found a profound spirituality. He used to believe that religion and spirituality meant accepting a system of beliefs and letting go of discernment and critical thinking. But the more he studied and practiced this spirituality\, the more he found that one’s relationship with God requires critical thinking to understand spiritual concepts. These concepts can in turn be applied to one’s life to bring healing. \nGradually\, he gave up his law practice to become a full-time Christian Science practitioner. Alexandre still works to help others “get out of trouble\,” that is\, to overcome a sense of limitation and to find freedom. \nAlexandre discovered that Christian Science is not just about feeling better or fixing problems. It’s about being willing to challenge one’s world view as entirely molecule-based and soulless\, to be open to see the world as spiritually-based\, and experience how this change in perspective brings inner peace and healing. Christian Science helps us understand our relationship with God\, infinite good\, more clearly. DESCRIPTION:Discovery Bound is excited to host it’s next Puget Sound regional event! It will be on June 28th\, on Saturday\, at 10 AM at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Tacoma.\n\nWe are hoping to get the group rate for 25 people and have trimmed down the costs due to that. If that is a financial hardship for any family\, please be in contact\, as we have funds.\n\nPatti Paul\, CS of Sequim\, WA\, will be giving an inspirational at the start. We will meet at the gate and head over to the Discovery Hut\, which is right above the aquarium.\n\nLooking forward to enjoying the day in fellowship with other Christian Scientists and their friends and family. SUMMARY:In-Person lecture: HUMILITY THAT “OVERCOMES THE WORLD”
DESCRIPTION:Humility that “Overcomes the World”\nA FREE Inspirational Talk\nby Mark McCurties\nOne of the central themes of Christ Jesus’ ministry was to teach and show that the power of God’s love can help us to overcome the various injustices that we face in the world.\nIn fact\, Jesus fully proved the power of God’s might. He healed all kinds of disease\, transformed the worst types of behavior\, he stopped violent acts from occurring\, and he forgave his enemies in order to save them\, proving hatred to be powerless in the face of divine Love. Ultimately\, Jesus showed that the power of God’s love doesn’t just help us to cope with the ills of the world; it helps us to conquer them. \nYet\, for all the remarkable healing work that Jesus did\, he never once took the credit. Instead he always gave the glory and honor to God\, our Father in heaven. So sincere was Jesus in his expression of humility that he even said\, “I can of my own self do nothing” (John 5:30). In other words\, Christ Jesus\, the Son of God\, who overcame all the ugliness that the world could throw at him\, said (in essence)\, the good that I do isn’t personal to me; it’s the Father working through me. \nMary Baker Eddy\, the woman who founded the Christian Science church\, perceived the powerful impact that Jesus’ humility had on his healing and saving mission. She wrote\, “Great charity and humility is necessary in this work of healing. The loving patience of Jesus\, we must strive to emulate.” (Miscellaneous Writings 7:7-9) \nIn this lecture\, we will discuss how learning to follow the example of Christ Jesus\, particularly his profound display of humility\, can empower each one of us to heal and to overcome the hard problems that we face. We will discuss what true humility is\, how it links us to God\, and by extension\, how it connects us with God’s healing and saving laws. There is great need for healing in the world today\, and Christ-like humility can help us to meet that demand. \nAbout Mark McCurties\n \nEver since he was a little boy\, Mark had a deep love for the Bible. When he read about men and women in the Bible overcoming hatred\, famine\, war\, physical disease\, and other hardships\, their triumphs inspired him. It didn’t matter what the odds were\, or what conditions they faced\, individuals in the Bible seemed to flourish in adversity based on one common theme: their deep love for God. \nGrowing up in a Christian Science household\, there was another book that Mark loved to read daily: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures written by Mary Baker Eddy. The very purpose of her book is to help unlock and reveal the deeper divine meaning and inspiration of the Bible. Together the Bible and Science and Health point to the practical healing and saving power of God and its present availability for all mankind. Mark knew that someday he wanted to share that healing message with the world. \nAs he grew into adulthood\, experiences in the field of education as a summer camp director\, outdoor educator\, athletics coach\, and resident counselor all helped to develop his understanding and practice of Christian Science. While working with young people\, Mark had multiple opportunities to witness God’s healing power. These examples proved to him that the healing power of the Christ is just as alive and relevant today as for the men and women of the Bible.
