To do that you have to know where to look\, to the source of liberty — God\, good itself\, all-inclusive.\nCircumstances often present what appear to be significant obstacles to living freely\, something that everyone wants to do\, says Nicole Virgil. Whatever it is that seems to stand between us and the full range of motion that we would like to have in our lives — it’s not so much the presenting impediment that is the problem — it’s not knowing how or where to access our God-given liberty. \nJoin us for this free Christian Science talk with international speaker and Christian Science healer\, Nicole Virgil on Saturday\, Feb 1\, at 10 a.m.\, at the Tukwilla Community Center. The talk is free\, open to the community\, and hosted by First Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Burien \n“In this talk\,” says Nicole\, “we will examine liberty from a Biblical perspective; and see how real people today find their freedom from all kinds of physical\, emotional and circumstantial restrictions that seem clearly beyond their control so that they may Be Set Free.” \nAbout Nicole Virgil\n \nNicole’s father was a freelance church organist\, and her parents attended services at many different Christian churches in New England. Her mom had been on a years-long search to find out how to practice Christian healing just as Jesus did\, and when she started attending Christian Science church services\, she found what she was looking for. As a result\, Nicole was raised in Christian Science\, and developed a deep desire for an intimate relationship with God. \nNicole studied Christian Science with her mom and music with her dad\, and found that each discipline complemented the other. Christian Science healed performance anxiety\, while learning music honed the skills she needed for spiritual practice — skills such as intuition\, listening\, patience and diligence. \nThroughout her life\, Christian Science and music have always overlapped. After studying opera at music school\, she took her one-woman opera review program (That Can’t Be Opera!) on the road\, educating audiences about opera by singing Mozart\, Puccini and Menotti. \nChristian Science guided her through this entrepreneurial endeavor\, just as it led her to start soloing in churches as a teenager (which is something she still loves to do!). DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Mary Bothwell. \nMary Bothwell\, practitioner of Christian Science healing and international speaker\, will present her talk\, “Experiencing Heaven Now\,” on April 14 at 2 p.m. at First Church of Christ\, Scientist\, 233 S. 156th Street\, in Burien\, WA. The talk is free and open to the community. \n“In college\, I was suddenly hit with a feeling of being disconnected and alone\,” says Mary. “Maybe it was because I was the only female physics major. Maybe it was because my work schedule meant I was seeing less of my friends. Whatever the reason\, I knew that a change in circumstances wouldn’t solve anything. It was at that point that spirituality became of primary importance in helping me find a lasting solution. For me\, spirituality means our connectedness to God and whatever practice we have that helps us recognize that. So perhaps it’s not surprising that one day\, after an insight about God and the ever-presence of God’s love dawned on me\, the disconnect vanished. Since then\, I’ve felt a conviction that divine Love is here for me\, and for everyone. \n“In spite of the hyper-connectedness of social media and technology\, we live in an era in which many are feeling this same disconnect. We all yearn to find meaningful relationships\, or a more lasting connection with peace\, contentment\, even health. In my lecture\, I’ll discuss how anyone can become genuinely aware of God’s presence and experience heaven — harmony\, health\, and happiness — here and now. \n“I’ll also share how the study of the Bible\, and a book that explains the healing relevance of the Bible\, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy\, can open up a new meaning of heaven to each of us. This heaven isn’t a place\, but a tangible feeling of being enveloped in love and spirituality that comes from understanding more about God. We’ll explore the new perspectives that come from this understanding of God — healing perspectives that can resolve all kinds of difficulties\, and transform our lives for good.” \nAbout Mary Bothwell \nFrom childhood\, Mary has pursued a quest to understand the universe. Her spiritual education and search began in the Christian Science Sunday School\, where she learned to apply the lessons in the Bible and the Christian Science textbook\, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, to her life. She was especially interested in the spiritual meaning behind what she read. In early adulthood\, Mary learned that Christ Jesus’ declaration\, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand\,” is true for everybody right now\, no matter where they are. She realized that the peace and joy inherent in the kingdom of heaven\, the spiritual universe\, are available to her at all times and under all circumstances. This understanding has carried her through difficult professional situations\, and allowed her to safely travel throughout the world. \n\nMary earned a Bachelor’s degree in physics from Principia College and an M.B.A. from UCLA. She was employed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) for 34 years. During her time at JPL\, she participated in and managed the development of technology and scientific instrumentation for earth\, planetary\, and astrophysics missions. \nNow\, in her work as a Christian Science practitioner\, Mary prays with people of many faiths to achieve healing through prayer as taught by Christ Jesus and described by Mary Baker Eddy in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Various health and emotional issues have been cured\, interpersonal relationships harmonized\, and supply restored. \nIn gratitude for the 18 years of instruction she received in Christian Science Sunday Schools\, she has served most of her adult life as a Sunday School teacher. She loves helping her students understand the Bible’s message and rejoices in their progress as healers and spiritual thinkers. \nMary and her husband Graham live in Pasadena\, California.

DESCRIPTION:A New View of God and Its Effect on Well-being\nA free Christian Science Web Lecture by Phillip Hockley\nWhen most people think about life-changing moments\, they may not think of a lecture on Christian Science. That wasn’t why I attended a lecture for the first time; I didn’t expect to walk out a new person. But I found something in that lecture that was indeed life-transforming. Christian Science gave me a new view of God that I’d not had before: a view of God as Love itself\, divine Love that loved me fully. I also discovered that this loving God was not the source of my troubles (which were many) but the solution to them. My life began to improve quickly after that and I became a healthy man after many years of suffering. \nThere’s no question that I was jubilant about the way my life was being transformed. But what impressed me the most was finding out that these kinds of breakthroughs aren’t one-time\, personal miracles. God’s love is available to everyone\, and there’s even a textbook on Christian Science healing that explains the power of God’s love in our lives: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. \nWhat I’ve gone on to learn\, and what I’ll share in my lecture\, is that the perspective of God and reality that Christian Science opens up is one that offers freedom from whatever in our lives seems painful\, debilitating\, or limiting. I’ll talk about a 19th-century woman\, Mary Baker Eddy\, who\, after a life-threatening injury\, discovered this new view of God for herself and went on to explain her discovery and its Bible-based principles in her book Science and Health.
