SUMMARY:In-Person lecture: BE SET FREE
DESCRIPTION:Be Set Free\nA FREE Inspirational Talk\nby Nicole Virgil\nTo live a life of liberty\, we have to find the nature and substance of liberty\, which is spiritual\, purposeful\, unburdened\, and given to all. To do that you have to know where to look\, to the source of liberty — God\, good itself\, all-inclusive.\nCircumstances often present what appear to be significant obstacles to living freely\, something that everyone wants to do\, says Nicole Virgil. Whatever it is that seems to stand between us and the full range of motion that we would like to have in our lives — it’s not so much the presenting impediment that is the problem — it’s not knowing how or where to access our God-given liberty. \nJoin us for this free Christian Science talk with international speaker and Christian Science healer\, Nicole Virgil on Friday\, May 29\, at 7 p.m.\, at the Dungeness River Nature Center (1943 W. Hendrickson Rd.\, Sequim) The talk is free\, open to the community\, and hosted by First Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Sequim. \n“In this talk\,” says Nicole\, “we will examine liberty from a Biblical perspective; and see how real people today find their freedom from all kinds of physical\, emotional and circumstantial restrictions that seem clearly beyond their control so that they may Be Set Free.” \nAbout Nicole Virgil\n \nNicole’s father was a freelance church organist\, and her parents attended services at many different Christian churches in New England. Her mom had been on a years-long search to find out how to practice Christian healing just as Jesus did\, and when she started attending Christian Science church services\, she found what she was looking for. As a result\, Nicole was raised in Christian Science\, and developed a deep desire for an intimate relationship with God. \nNicole studied Christian Science with her mom and music with her dad\, and found that each discipline complemented the other. Christian Science healed performance anxiety\, while learning music honed the skills she needed for spiritual practice — skills such as intuition\, listening\, patience and diligence. \nThroughout her life\, Christian Science and music have always overlapped. After studying opera at music school\, she took her one-woman opera review program (That Can’t Be Opera!) on the road\, educating audiences about opera by singing Mozart\, Puccini and Menotti. \nChristian Science guided her through this entrepreneurial endeavor\, just as it led her to start soloing in churches as a teenager (which is something she still loves to do!). Nicole eventually married\, started a family with her husband\, and entered the public practice of Christian Science. \nToday Nicole enjoys raising children\, gardening\, soloing in church\, and witnessing the healing effect of Christian Science. \nThis free talk is sponsored by\nFirst Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Sequim\, WA

SUMMARY:In-Person lecture: THE JOY OF BEGINNING WITH GOD
DESCRIPTION:The Joy of Beginning with God\nA FREE Inspirational Talk\nby Mark McCurties\nThe very first verse of the Bible in the chapter Genesis offers the most wonderful news: “In the beginning\, God created the heaven and the earth.” Part of what this glorious verse tells us is that in reality\, everything and everyone begins with God. In other words\, God is the only cause and the only creator\, and God is causing good and right developments for each one of us.\nMary Baker Eddy\, the woman who founded the Christian Science church\, knew that this subject of causation\, cause and effect\, might just be the most important discussion of our time. In fact\, she boldly stated that making progress in the world depends on understanding cause and effect in the right way. She wrote: “Spiritual causation is the one question to be considered\, for more than all others spiritual causation relates to human progress.” (Science and Health p. 170:22–24) \nTo that point\, perhaps you’ve noticed that the world is talking nonstop about causation right now. \nWhat causes disease? What causes inflation? What causes crime? What causes natural disasters? etc. However\, it’s helpful to note that these conversations are taking place from the point of view of physical causation\, physical or material causes and effects. \nIn this lecture\, I’m going to take a different approach. I’d like to talk about causation\, from a spiritual point of view. In other words\, what is God causing? What kind of effects does God’s causative power produce? The Bible promises that God is causing only good. So in this lecture\, I will explore how a better understanding of the good that God forever causes\, can help us to experience more of that goodness in the form of health\, peace\, and safety for our world. In the beginning\, from the beginning\, and without beginning\, God is causing good. As loved children of God\, we each have a divine right to feel the effect of that divine goodness in our daily lives. I invite you then\, to come learn more about the joy of beginning with God! \nAbout Mark McCurties\n \nEver since he was a little boy\, Mark had a deep love for the Bible. When he read about men and women in the Bible overcoming hatred\, famine\, war\, physical disease\, and other hardships\, their triumphs inspired him. It didn’t matter what the odds were\, or what conditions they faced\, individuals in the Bible seemed to flourish in adversity based on one common theme: their deep love for God. \nGrowing up in a Christian Science household\, there was another book that Mark loved to read daily: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures written by Mary Baker Eddy. The very purpose of her book is to help unlock and reveal the deeper divine meaning and inspiration of the Bible. Together the Bible and Science and Health point to the practical healing and saving power of God and its present availability for all mankind. Mark knew that someday he wanted to share that healing message with the world. \nAs he grew into adulthood\, experiences in the field of education as a summer camp director\, outdoor educator\, athletics coach\, and resident counselor all helped to develop his understanding and practice of Christian Science. While working with young people\, Mark had multiple opportunities to witness God’s healing power. These examples proved to him that the healing power of the Christ is just as alive and relevant today as for the men and women of the Bible. In 2010\, with a desire to focus solely on healing through prayer\, Mark entered the full-time public practice of Christian Science. \nThis free talk is sponsored by\nFirst Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Sequim\, WA & Christian Science Society Port Townsend \nLocation: Christian Science Church\, Sequim

SUMMARY:In-Person lecture and livestream: FINDING JOY\, HEALTH\, HOPE\, FOR ALL
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Steven Salt. \nSometimes we can feel that joy seems hard to find — and seems even harder to keep! But what if joy is really fundamental to our nature? What if it is something all of us have permanently? \nChristian Science teacher and lecturer Steve Salt asks\, “What if we could find the good in life for which our hearts yearn is invulnerable to surrounding events\, that it’s never ‘on the line’ for any reason\, actually? If there was a way to trust that\, and to prove it\, that would give us a compelling reason to have hope. Even a reason for unshakeable joy. Christian Science explains the incredible good endowed on us by God — a good all of us deserve and can even expect — all the time.” \nSteve will present his talk\, “Finding joy\, health\, hope for all\,” on Saturday\, May 18\, at 2 p.m. at the Quality Inn and Suites\, 134 River Road\, Sequim\, WA.. The talk is free\, open to the community\, and sponsored by First Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Sequim. \nYou can also listen to the audio from Steve’s lecture\, livestreamed at https://christiansciencesequim.org/events/. \nSteve will share how he was healed of mental darkness\, and subsequently regained his sense of joy. Through praying with ideas from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy\, he was transformed — uplifted by a better understanding of joy as a quality of an all-present\, all-loving God. \nHe will also share other healings\, thoughts on identity\, prayer\, and what Jesus taught about joy. And he’ll describe Mary Baker Eddy’s life. She founded Christian Science\, wrote Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, and modeled a prayerful approach to life\, through good happenings and bad\, health and sickness\, security and poverty\, safety and homelessness — prevailing over all of these obstacles\, and helping many others along the way. \nAbout Steven Salt \nExploring how things work\, discovering dynamic relationships\, observing unapparent connections\, and applying the knowledge gained to make sense of it all: this has been the impulse of Steve’s life. \nAs a youngster he designed\, engineered\, and built cities of cardboard\, electrified them\, and served as city manager to imaginary families and workers. This was followed by more complex projects that included a balsa wood suspension bridge and a working model of a three-story elevator. Oh\, and model rockets. He launched lots of rockets into the sky. Steve likes learning by doing. \nParallel to this education was a deeper plunge into the workings of life through attending Christian Science Sunday School\, where he learned the fundamentals of his relationship to God and other people. Steve gained a broader\, more spiritual and practical sense of the Bible along with the framework in which to understand and value the true nature of things. \nAfter earning a degree in education at Ohio University\, he went into the family hardware business helping people problem-solve the household challenges they were facing. Steve’s commitment to church continued to grow as he served in various capacities. Most importantly\, he was gaining a better conception of God’s ever-presence through the Christian Science that brings this reality into focus. \nEventually\, Steve was led to the full-time\, public practice of Christian Science where he could apply its teachings to daily experiences and secure a stable sense of well-being for those in need of prayerful support. \nHe enjoyed fulfilling the duties of Christian Science Committee on Publication for Ohio for 15 years. This allowed him to connect with editors\, reporters\, and government officials at the local\, state\, and national levels\, ensuring the availability of accurate information about Christian Science. Steve regularly met with ecumenical and interfaith leaders\, and gave talks with interfaith groups and comparative religion classes. He wrote for national websites\, blogs\, newspapers\, and magazines in this capacity. \nSteve is married to Crystal\, his high school sweetheart. They have two sons and three grandchildren. They all bring him joy. \nPhoto at top by Molnár Bálint on Unsplash \n
