I’ve experienced how this has an impact on my life and on the lives of others.” Finding this new sense of our connection to God helps us bring healing to difficult world problems like political divisions and social inequality. Each one of us is connected to God. No one is left out. James’s lecture discusses what our purpose is\, where our worth comes from\, and shares examples of how seeing ourselves and others as God sees us gives us a spiritual perspective that heals ourselves and our world. \nJoin us for James’ talk\, “Why Everyone is Needed?” on Saturday\, November 8\, in Spokane\, WA. The talk is free\, open to the community\, and hosted by First Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Spokane at the Spokane Valley Public Library 22 N Herald Rd\, Spokane at 11:00 AM. \nSharing examples of healing from his own life and professional practice of Christian Science\, Shepherd will explain why Christian Science is both Christian and scientific\, meaning that people can prove its effectiveness for themselves\, as fully described in the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, written by the founder of the Christian Science movement\, Mary Baker Eddy. \nShepherd will also touch on the life of Mary Baker Eddy\, who came to understand\, confirm\, and teach what she felt was original Christian healing. Eddy herself said she was especially inspired by Jesus’ demand\, “He that believes on me\, the works that I do will he do also; and greater works than these will he do\, because I go unto my Father” (found in the Gospel of John 14:12 in the Bible). \nAbout James Shepherd\nGod’s love is for everyone\, and a Christian Science lecture is a perfect setting to learn about God’s love and the healing that it brings. \nJames has seen the healing effects of God’s love since he was a youngster\, romping through the woods around his home with his three brothers. They had their share of scrapes and bruises which were quickly healed through prayer. On the rare occasions they felt sick\, they relied on Christian Science for quick healings. \nIn high school his family moved to a ranch where they had cattle\, horses\, sheep\, pigs\, chickens\, and turkeys. He graduated from college with a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture\, but realized that serving as a Christian Science healer was the best way he could serve others. He left the ranch and took up the full-time work of helping others find healing through prayer. Thirty years later\, he still loves this work as much as ever. \nOver the years\, James has enjoyed being active in many roles in his local Church of Christ\, Scientist\, and has worked at summer camps for Christian Scientists and their friends. He has also shared the message of Love’s transforming power in prison settings and youth detention centers. When his four children were little\, he coached their sports programs. He finds other ways to help his community\, such as by volunteering at a neighborhood church to help cook a free breakfast for those in need. \nJames loves spending time with his family and doing any outdoor activity. But at the same time\, He (never She) could be distant\, unknowable\, and judgmental. He was loving\, but could punish us harshly. He sent sunshine and babies\, but also storms\, wars\, and disease\,” explains Giulia Nesi Tetreau.\nShe continues\, “Longing for meaningful connection with the divine\, this two-sided God was no comfort to me as I grew older. I wanted to feel unconditional love\, that God would be a reliable help no matter what I was dealing with or going through. And I didn’t just want to know about God. I wanted to experience God. \nMy yearning was actually part of what I understand to be a larger spiritual revolution. Worldwide\, across cultures\, people are seeking a truer sense of Deity. Spirit\, God (or whatever we call our Source) is impelling us all toward a life that’s bigger and deeper than what we perceive with the five senses. \nThis impulsion led me to Christian Science\, which\, based on the life and teachings of Christ Jesus\, explains that God is pure Love\, and the source of all good feminine as well as masculine qualities. It also teaches that we all are God’s beloved children – always\, in all conditions – and that what’s true and enduring is the good in our nature. These are and continue to be revolutionary concepts. So revolutionary that\, as they change our viewpoints about God and ourselves\, we can experience healing from disease and suffering as Jesus showed us. \nHere’s an example. A friend of mine had experienced deep feelings of sadness\, loneliness and depression – beginning in middle school and persisting through high school. He even attempted suicide. \nDuring this time he was convinced that God did not exist and that the power of the universe was crushing him. But he was mentally conflicted too – he also felt his only hope was in the power of God. \nHe was familiar with Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, and decided to read it through entirely because he felt his only hope and help would be in consciously understanding more about God. So he decided to read through Science and Health cover to cover\, which he did over a dozen times over the next few years. \nA growing sense of hope\, felt from reading the spiritual ideas on every page\, was persistently replacing thoughts and feelings of despair and depression. One night\, he had a profound spiritual moment that made this fact clear: The truth of his spiritual being is his oneness\, his inseparability with God\, and that this truth is a rock to stand on! \nMy friend said it was like he was suddenly released from being held underwater! During the next few weeks he had a tangible sense of the presence of Love\, embracing everything and everyone. I’ve lectured to the public in a variety of settings and venues\, from prisons to professional health care audiences and everything in between. DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Michelle Nanouche. \nSpirituality and the practice of prayer isn’t a lifestyle choice for Michelle; it is basic to who she is. Her family was introduced to Christian Science through her dad’s healing of acute depression. She was exposed to the idea that God heals sickness from an early age. At twelve\, Michelle prayed to God to heal a foot wound. The quick healing fanned her interest in all things relating to God. In her last year of high school she took evening training to be a Christian Science nurse’s aide. Right after graduation\, she pursued training for the healing ministry of Christian Science nursing.Nine years as a Christian Science nurse provided her with loads of experience in healing through spiritual means. \nBy the time Michelle opened her first public office as a Christian Science practitioner in 1989\, she had witnessed a great number of healings through prayer. From personal experience\, she can share accounts of healings of broken bones\, tumors\, pneumonia\, eating disorders\, heart disease\, mental and emotional disorders\, financial difficulties and more. She has observed in the practice of Christian Science that following the example and teachings of Christ Jesus heals quickly and effectively.
