SUMMARY:In-Person lecture: WHY EVERYONE IS NEEDED
DESCRIPTION:Why Everyone is Needed\nA FREE Inspirational Talk\nby James Shepherd\n“As we learn more about who we are–as God’s thoughtful\, loved creation–our self-worth\, purpose\, physical health\, and relationships are transformed.”\nSo says James Shepherd\, practitioner of Christian Science healing and international speaker. “I love exploring the nature of God\, infinite Love\, as the only cause\, and our unbreakable connection to God as God’s offspring\,” he continues. “This connection gives us our purpose and worth by seeing everyone from a more God-like\, or spiritual\, point of view. I’ve experienced how this has an impact on my life and on the lives of others.” Finding this new sense of our connection to God helps us bring healing to difficult world problems like political divisions and social inequality. Each one of us is connected to God. No one is left out. James’s lecture discusses what our purpose is\, where our worth comes from\, and shares examples of how seeing ourselves and others as God sees us gives us a spiritual perspective that heals ourselves and our world. \nJoin us for James’ talk\, “Why Everyone is Needed?” on Saturday\, Nov. 23\, in Bellingham\, WA. The talk is free\, open to the community\, and hosted by First Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Bellingham at the Bellingham Library at 2:00 PM. \nSharing examples of healing from his own life and professional practice of Christian Science\, Shepherd will explain why Christian Science is both Christian and scientific\, meaning that people can prove its effectiveness for themselves\, as fully described in the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, written by the founder of the Christian Science movement\, Mary Baker Eddy. \nShepherd will also touch on the life of Mary Baker Eddy\, who came to understand\, confirm\, and teach what she felt was original Christian healing. Eddy herself said she was especially inspired by Jesus’ demand\, “He that believes on me\, the works that I do will he do also; and greater works than these will he do\, because I go unto my Father” (found in the Gospel of John 14:12 in the Bible). \nAbout James Shepherd\nGod’s love is for everyone\, and a Christian Science lecture is a perfect setting to learn about God’s love and the healing that it brings. \nJames has seen the healing effects of God’s love since he was a youngster\, romping through the woods around his home with his three brothers. They had their share of scrapes and bruises which were quickly healed through prayer. On the rare occasions they felt sick\, they relied on Christian Science for quick healings. \nIn high school his family moved to a ranch where they had cattle\, horses\, sheep\, pigs\, chickens\, and turkeys. He graduated from college with a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture\, but realized that serving as a Christian Science healer was the best way he could serve others. He left the ranch and took up the full-time work of helping others find healing through prayer. Thirty years later\, he still loves this work as much as ever. \nOver the years\, James has enjoyed being active in many roles in his local Church of Christ\, Scientist\, and has worked at summer camps for Christian Scientists and their friends. He has also shared the message of Love’s transforming power in prison settings and youth detention centers. When his four children were little\, he coached their sports programs. He finds other ways to help his community\, such as by volunteering at a neighborhood church to help cook a free breakfast for those in need. \nJames loves spending time with his family and doing any outdoor activity. But his greatest joy will always be to find\, and to help others find\, a more tangible sense of God’s love for everyone and how that improves every aspect of our lives. \n  \nThis free talk is sponsored by\nFirst Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Bellingham\, WA.

SUMMARY:In-Person lecture: PRAYER AND WELL-BEING: A SPIRITUAL ADVENTURE
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Nate Frederick. \n“Are prayer and healing for you?” asks Nate Frederick. “I mean\, if you have no experience with spirituality or religion\, or you’re not even sure what you think about God\, can you still pray and be healed? \n“Yes. Because prayer and healing are natural to us\, and I say this as one who didn’t even grow up in a religious household. But what I’ve discovered as I’ve studied Christian Science is that a willingness to shift perspectives\, to see things in a new\, more spiritual way\, has an effect–for anyone.” \nNate Frederick — a practitioner of Christian Science and international speaker — will present his talk\, Prayer and Well-Being: A Spiritual Adventure\, on Saturday\, March 9\, at 2 p.m.\, at the Bellingham Public Library\, 210 Central Avenue in Bellingham. \nNate talks about an inmate he once worked with. “As I shared the basics of Christian Science with him he said it all sounded great but he was just a bad person. He seemed pretty convinced that healing wasn’t for him. But as we talked about the fact that he wasn’t defined by his past\, but by God\, his source\, who is completely good\, I could tell his thought about himself was changing. \n“And then he wanted more. So he took a copy of the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy’s book\, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, back to his cell and started to dive into these books. Six or seven weeks later\, I ran into him again and he told me that he’d been healed of a serious illness–just from studying the Bible and Science and Health. His study helped him grasp God and his life in a new way and his disease was cured. \n“In my lecture\, I’ll share more about the fundamentals of effective prayer\, as I’ve learned from studying Christian Science\, as well as how healing is truly possible for everyone.” \nAbout Nate Frederick \nExperiencing first-hand the healing power of Love is Nate’s favorite thing.  It’s what makes him tick. \nNate studied religion and perennial philosophy at Hampshire College where he was introduced to Christian Science healing. Although he was enamored with the academic exploration of spirituality\, what he truly desired most was to practice spirituality in a tangible way — he wanted to experience God and heal others. \nAfter producing a documentary on miracles and traveling the world where he hiked extensively in the Himalayas\, Nate came to Boston in 2008 to work for his church\, The First Church of Christ\, Scientist. Since then\, he has served in many capacities\, including launching and producing your Daily Lift podcast. Nate also helped pioneer the online Sunday School at The Mother Church; helped launch a branch church in Jamaica Plain\, Massachusetts; worked as a counselor and wilderness trip leader for six years at a camp for Christian Scientists; has shared the Good News at jails\, rehab centers and interfaith-events. He’s also composed\, produced and performed a variety of spiritually inspired music. \nNate’s many hobbies include adventuring in the outdoors\, writing songs and cooking. But he says\, “Without comparison\, my greatest love\, my greatest joy— my purpose — is to transform lives and heal the sick through Christianly Scientific prayer.” \nThis deeper sense of purpose led Nate to become a full-time Christian Science practitioner\, who helps others find healing. In his lectures\, Nate enjoys sharing how\, in his eyes\, healing through prayer is life’s greatest adventure. \nTop photo by Jeffery Erhunse on Unsplash \n
