DESCRIPTION:Finding where God is seen and felt — what’s church got to do with it?\nA FREE Inspirational Talk\nby Emra Farkas\n“A new kind of thinking is needed to recognize that God’s goodness and love are actually here and tangible to all humanity everywhere.”\nSo says Emra Farkas\, practitioner of Christian Science healing and international speaker. “The idea of ‘church’ can shift from being a physical building\, a set time on a particular day\, or an assembly of perfect humans (does that even exist??)\, to that of being what God builds in our lives every moment through us responding to Christ Jesus’ message of God’s all-powerful love.” \nJoin us for Emra’s talk\, “Finding where God is seen and felt — what’s church got to do with it?” at 11AM on Saturday\, May. 2\, in Bellvue\, WA. The talk is free\, open to the community\, and hosted by Second Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Bellevue\, at the church 2251 140th Ave NE\, Bellevue\, Washington. \nSharing examples of healing from her own life and professional practice of Christian Science\, Emra will explain why Christian Science is both Christian and scientific\, meaning that people can prove its effectiveness for themselves\, as fully described in the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, written by the founder of the Christian Science movement\, Mary Baker Eddy. \nEmra will also touch on the life of Mary Baker Eddy\, who came to understand\, confirm\, and teach what she felt was original Christian healing. Eddy herself said she was especially inspired by Jesus’ demand\, “He that believes on me\, the works that I do will he do also; and greater works than these will he do\, because I go unto my Father” (found in the Gospel of John 14:12 in the Bible). \nAbout Emra Farkas\nThe most important influences on Emra’s life were her mother\, who taught her to pray when confronted with difficulties\, and her Christian Science Sunday School. In her teens\, when a teacher asked her to speak to a social studies class about her religion\, she found the joy that comes from sharing what she understood and had experienced of Mary Baker Eddy’s discovery. She was asked back each year and was always moved by the way students who were skeptical about the subject became interested after hearing her accounts of spiritual healing–her healings of a severed thumb\, tonsilitis\, swimmer’s ear\, bullying\, and other difficulties. \nHowever\, during college and graduate school she drifted away from church. Her degrees were in Fine Arts and after school she worked for galleries and museums in New York City. Her interest in finding spiritual answers to life’s challenges was rekindled\, and she explored a variety of spiritual disciplines in search of answers. This hands-on study of comparative religion helped her understand the universality of the search for spiritual truth but left her with unanswered questions. \nShe and her husband moved to Taos\, New Mexico\, where she enjoyed a career in music performance and started a family. After some years of poor health\, a sudden spiritual insight led her back to Christian Science and an instantaneous healing of multiple chronic illnesses. This inspired a deeper study of Eddy’s writings which then led to returning to church\, taking Christian Science class instruction (a two-week intensive course of study) and shortly after\, becoming a full-time Christian Science practitioner.  She says there is nothing more satisfying than seeing divine Truth and Love transform lives and bring healing. She feels deeply blessed to practice and teach Christian Science\, contribute to the Christian Science periodicals\, serve her branch church\, and serve as a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship. \nThis free talk is sponsored by\nSecond Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Bellevue\, WA.

DESCRIPTION:The Joy of Beginning with God\nA FREE Inspirational Talk\nby Mark McCurties\nThe very first verse of the Bible in the chapter Genesis offers the most wonderful news: “In the beginning\, God created the heaven and the earth.” Part of what this glorious verse tells us is that in reality\, everything and everyone begins with God. In other words\, God is the only cause and the only creator\, and God is causing good and right developments for each one of us.\nMary Baker Eddy\, the woman who founded the Christian Science church\, knew that this subject of causation\, cause and effect\, might just be the most important discussion of our time. In fact\, she boldly stated that making progress in the world depends on understanding cause and effect in the right way. She wrote: “Spiritual causation is the one question to be considered\, for more than all others spiritual causation relates to human progress.” (Science and Health p. 170:22–24) \nTo that point\, perhaps you’ve noticed that the world is talking nonstop about causation right now. \nWhat causes disease? What causes inflation? What causes crime? What causes natural disasters? etc. However\, it’s helpful to note that these conversations are taking place from the point of view of physical causation\, physical or material causes and effects. \nIn this lecture\, I’m going to take a different approach. I’d like to talk about causation\, from a spiritual point of view. In other words\, what is God causing? What kind of effects does God’s causative power produce? The Bible promises that God is causing only good. So in this lecture\, I will explore how a better understanding of the good that God forever causes\, can help us to experience more of that goodness in the form of health\, peace\, and safety for our world. In the beginning\, from the beginning\, and without beginning\, God is causing good. As loved children of God\, we each have a divine right to feel the effect of that divine goodness in our daily lives. I invite you then\, to come learn more about the joy of beginning with God! \nAbout Mark McCurties\n \nEver since he was a little boy\, Mark had a deep love for the Bible. When he read about men and women in the Bible overcoming hatred\, famine\, war\, physical disease\, and other hardships\, their triumphs inspired him. It didn’t matter what the odds were\, or what conditions they faced\, individuals in the Bible seemed to flourish in adversity based on one common theme: their deep love for God. \nGrowing up in a Christian Science household\, there was another book that Mark loved to read daily: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures written by Mary Baker Eddy. The very purpose of her book is to help unlock and reveal the deeper divine meaning and inspiration of the Bible. Together the Bible and Science and Health point to the practical healing and saving power of God and its present availability for all mankind. Mark knew that someday he wanted to share that healing message with the world. \nAs he grew into adulthood\, experiences in the field of education as a summer camp director\, outdoor educator\, athletics coach\, and resident counselor all helped to develop his understanding and practice of Christian Science. While working with young people\, Mark had multiple opportunities to witness God’s healing power. These examples proved to him that the healing power of the Christ is just as alive and relevant today as for the men and women of the Bible. DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Michelle Nanouche. \nSpirituality and the practice of prayer isn’t a lifestyle choice for Michelle; it is basic to who she is. Her family was introduced to Christian Science through her dad’s healing of acute depression. She was exposed to the idea that God heals sickness from an early age. At twelve\, Michelle prayed to God to heal a foot wound. The quick healing fanned her interest in all things relating to God. In her last year of high school she took evening training to be a Christian Science nurse’s aide. Right after graduation\, she pursued training for the healing ministry of Christian Science nursing.Nine years as a Christian Science nurse provided her with loads of experience in healing through spiritual means. \nBy the time Michelle opened her first public office as a Christian Science practitioner in 1989\, she had witnessed a great number of healings through prayer. From personal experience\, she can share accounts of healings of broken bones\, tumors\, pneumonia\, eating disorders\, heart disease\, mental and emotional disorders\, financial difficulties and more. She has observed in the practice of Christian Science that following the example and teachings of Christ Jesus heals quickly and effectively.
